Hippo Type VBD – Bottom Discharge Heavy Duty Slurry Vertical Spindle Pump

The Hippo vertical Spindle Bottom Suction Pump Range is used in applications where the solid particles in the liquid has already settled out and need to be agitated before being pumped. The design of this all metal pump constructed from High Chrome Hydraulic-End as standard contributes durability and high efficiency. The pump can be manufactured out of all types of Duplex Stainless Steel Alloys e.g. (CD4MCu) for acidic environments. The Hippo pump range can be fitted with wide verity accessories to accommodate the client’s requirements.

The Advantages of Bottom Suction Configuration

The Twin Volute Discharge Design
  • Twin Volute Discharge Design: Utilising this principle all radial forces are balanced out in the volute, which results in the minimum load on the bearings – increasing the bearing life as well as enabling a more efficient pumping capability.
  • Agitator: The Hippo heavy duty Slurry pump range can be fitted with an agitator
  • “Run Dry”: The failure of submersible pumps as a result of insufficient cooling has been solved by having the stator housing filled with oil which dissipates heat away from the winding thus enabling the HIPPO Submersible pump to run dry continuously. The design allows for fully, partial and non-submerged conditions.
  • Cantilever Shaft: As a result of the Twin Volute Design a Cantilever Shaft is used, whereby the Wet-End is dissociated from the Motor-End without any support bearings.
  • Mechanical Seals: As a result of the Cantilever Shaft, the mechanical Seals are dissociated from the Wet-End and are only subject to submergence pressure resulting in an extended seal life.
  • Moisture Detection: Should the mechanical seals fail, a moisture detector which is built into the pump will cut the power supply to the pump thus eliminating damage to the winding
  • Hydraulic -End Designs: For every application a specific Hydraulic End Design is available, whether a high head application or a high volume application is required. Large and irregular solids or abrasive and corrosive liquids can also be handled with ease.

IEC (SANS) standards

To pump in explosive environments all Hippo Vertical Pumps comply to:

  • IEC (SANS) 60079:0 2005
  • IEC (SANS) 60079:1 2004

Applications

The Hippo VBD Heavy Duty Slurry Pumps is used in complex slurry or de-watering pumping applications. The combination of compact design with high-pressure capability makes these pumps suitable for use in pits, on pontoons or can be installed in a temporary or fixed installation. The installation design options provide the flexibility requirements to cover all industry needs. Some applications include:

  • Mineral Process Plants
  • Mineral Excavations
  • Coal Mine Tunnels
  • Slurry Pumping
  • Flotation Cell Transfer
  • Magnetite Recovery
  • Slurry Storage Sumps
  • Slurry Transport
  • Tailings Sumps
  • Thickener Feed Pumps
