Submersible Top Suction Pump
The Hippo Submersible Top Suction Slurry Pump Range is used in applications where high discharged pressures exist and pumping liquids with entrapped air (Froth Pumping). The all metal pump construction with High Chrome hydraulic design as standard contributes durability and high efficiency. The pump can be manufactured out of all types of Duplex Stainless Steel Alloys e.g. (CD4MCu) for acidic environments. The Hippo pump range can be fitted with wide verity accessories to accommodate the client’s requirements. The Top Suction design is used to pump excess liquids away while the maximum amount of solids remain in the sump to be removed mechanically.
- Capable pumping of abrasive and corrosive liquids.
- Capacities up to 1500 l/s and heads up to 200 meters.
- Flame Proof to IEC 60079-1
- Power installed from 3 Kw up to 1 000 Kw.
- Voltage supply up to 6.6 KV at both 50 & 60 Hz.
- Liquids up to 120 °C
- Can be used in Froth Pumping
- Can “Run Dry”
The Hippo Twin-Volute Discharge Design
Balanced hydraulic forces totally eliminate shaft deflection during partial loading.
Advantages of the Submersible Top Suction pump configuration
- Twin Volute Discharge Design: Utilising this principle all radial forces are balanced out in the volute, which results in the minimum load on the bearings – increasing the bearing life as well as enabling a more efficient pumping capability.
- Lifting bracket: Allows lowering of the pump while in operation
- “Run Dry”: The failure of submersible pumps as a result of insufficient cooling has been solved by having the stator housing filled with oil which dissipates heat away from the winding thus enabling the HIPPO Submersible pump to run dry continuously. The design allows for fully, partial and non-submerged conditions.
- Angular Contact Bearings: Mounted back-to-back which restricts all axial movement should the pump be surging
- Oiled filled Motor housing: Lubricates the bearings and mechanical seals and dissipates the heat away from the winding
- Double Mechanical Seals: With moisture detector operate at submergence presure
- Moisture Detection: Should the mechanical seals fail, a moisture detector which is built into the pump will cut the power supply to the pump thus eliminating damage to the winding
- Stator Motor: Designed to operate at any supply voltage and is vacuum impregnated.
- Cantilever shaft: Seperates the motor from the pump end resulting in the mechanical seal operating at submergence pressure and not at discharge presure.
IEC (SANS) standards
To pump in explosive environments all Hippo Submersible Pumps comply to:
- IEC (SANS) 60079:0 2005
- IEC (SANS) 60079:1 2004
Applications
The Hippo ST slurry pumps are excellent for dewatering and drainage pumping applications and can be used pumping liquids with entrapped air (Froth Pumping) applications. The combination of compact design with high-pressure capability makes the pumps suitable for use in sumps, open pits, on pontoons or can be installed in temporary or fixed installations. Can also be installed in series for accommodate very high heads like acid mine water drainage. These installation design options provide the flexibility requirements to cover all industry needs.
Some applications include:
- General Hard De-watering & Drainage
- Slag Pits
- Tailings ponds
- Slurry Froth Pumping
- Mineral Processing
- Phosphoric Acid Plants
- Mine De-watering
